Lee Ja-Young

Lee Ja-Young (b.1978 in Korea) graduated from the Department of Painting at the College of Fine Arts, Seoul National University in 2009. Lee has been working on paintings that connect traditional Eastern aesthetics, especially Korean, with modernity. Deeply influenced by the abstractness and spirituality of Northeast Asian Culture, she transformed brushstrokes into a philosophical means of expressionsion that contains perception and sense. This approach is connected to the Eastern thoughts on nature and existence, and the Confucian worldview, and gives existential and poetic depth to her work. Lee received the Kumho Young Artist Award in 2012 and her works have been included in different public collections, such as the Kumho Museum of Art and Yangpyeong Art Museum.
