Oh Se-Yeol
Oh Se-Yeol (b. 1945 in Seoul, Korea) obtained B.F.A in painting from Seorabeol University of Arts and received his M.F.A from Chung-Ang University Graduate School of Arts in Seoul. By using numerous materials such as oil paint, acrylic paint, conté, gouache in his works, Oh’s unique creations aren't confined to any type of art. He often incorporates youthful elements such as scribbles of numerical digits and collages of everyday objects into his paintings, expressing childlike innocence and purity. Despite living through the Korean War and witnessing the country’s rapid social development, Oh’s works focus on personal memory rather than collective ones, inspiring audiences to interpret his works through their own imaginations and emotions.
Since the 1970s, Oh has exhibited extensively both domestically and internationally, including Hakgojae Gallery in Korea, Galerie Vazieux in France, Pontone Gallery in UK, Korean Cultural Center in Belgium, and more. His works are acquired by numerous museums and private collections, including National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, Leeum Samsung Museum of Art, Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation.
