Lee Kew-Hong (b. 1972 in Jindo, Korea) completed his B.F.A. at Kookmin University and earned his Master’s degree from Edinburgh College of Art. He also finished a doctoral program at Kookmin University and is currently an adjunct professor in the School of Design there. Always groundbreaking and innovative, Lee experiments with new techniques for working with glass. By combining cast glass with ott (lacquer)—the sap from the ott tree—and gold leaf, these materials work together to enhance expression, creating a quality that has never been seen before. Lee has received numerous awards, including being shortlisted for The Coburg Prize for Contemporary Glass in Germany and at the CERAMIX Glass Art Awards Special Jury Award in Korea. He was also a finalist for the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize in 2023. Additionally, he has created large-scale, site-specific commissions, including works at Haeinsa Temple and Jinbu Railway Station. His work is exhibited and collected internationally, including in the permanent collections of the Veste Coburg Art Collections in Germany and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Korea.
